With the popularity of off-road vehicles here in Lakeland, Tunes-N-Tint receives a lot of questions about the differences between truck lift kits and a leveling kit. Both solutions are designed to provide additional clearance for larger tires. However, the need for one over the other depends on how you intend to use your truck and just how much additional clearance you need. Let’s look into truck suspension upgrades.
What is a Leveling Kit?
In most applications, a leveling kit includes a set of torsion bar keys or a strut spacer that adds up to an additional 2.5 inches of distance between the front axle and the body of the truck. Let’s say you want to run 33×12.50-inch tires on a new Ram 1500. The Rough Country 2.5-inch inch kit will raise the front of the truck using a set of high-quality steel spacers between the top of the front strut and the body.
When you look at the truck from the side, the rake of the truck is eliminated, and the top of the bed will be parallel to the ground. Many of our clients like this look.
Truck Lift Kits
Let’s say you are rollin’ in a late-model Ram and you feel like taking the truck onto the trails. Running a set of 35-inch tall tires will give you added ground clearance, but they require a real lift kit to keep the tires from hitting the fenders. Fabtech’s 6-inch lift kit includes new rear coil springs and a complete set of link arms, new front spindles, shock spacers, custom-fabricated cross members and new rear struts. This kit will get your truck up in the air and give you the clearance you need for logs, rocks and churning through mud.
