This 2006 Mercedes C230 has been to us a few times over the years from its Lakeland owner. This time, we built a simple, but custom, enclosure for a Kicker L7 15-inch subwoofer and installed a new Kenwood DNX-693 GPS navigation head unit into the vehicle. The Kenwood GPS navigation touchscreen integrated into the dash of this C230 very nicely. It has a clean but stock appearance. All of the interior speakers were upgraded previously, using Kicker components and a Kicker KX series four-channel amplifier.
To maintain a clean appearance but still get some serious bass in his Mercedes, the client decided to go with a Kicker L7 15”. Kicker offers some of the hardest-hitting bass out of its subs for the budget, but they take up a lot of trunk space and the enclosures can be quite large. Our client didn’t want to sacrifice his trunk space or his sound, so our Tunes-N-Tint team members built a vented enclosure that gave the sub the maximum air space possible. The enclosure is vented behind an edge-to-edge beauty panel that not only protects his new audio equipment but does so in a very clean, factory way.
The subwoofer is powered by a KX1600.1 amplifier, giving him plenty of head room to really make this system jam, all hidden behind the edge-to-edge beauty panel. Since this Kicker sub has a silver cone from the factory, we added some gray carpet as an accent piece around the enclosure’s baffle, bringing a subtle amount of attention to the woofer.
We gave this C230 a lot of bass in very little space, with rooms for golf clubs and strollers to spare. Stop by and let us give you a no-obligation quote for upgrading your vehicle’s sound system.
